'Is your midcentury heart all aquiver?' one guest asked L.A. designer Michael Berman at the opening of the Ralph Pucci showroom last week. Whose heart wouldnt be? Pucci brings the work of two great living modernists - Denmark's Jens Risom and Manhattanite Vladmir Kagan - and 11 others to a 9,000-square-foot space in the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Among the 600-plus party guests ducking around David Week's mobile-style lighting fixture were Academy Awards best actor nominee David Strathairn, there to support his friend Chris Lehrecke, who produces furniture from fallen Northeastern timber and blackend steel. Kagan, 78, dropped in to unveil his skulptur line, which he called 'absolute couture replicas' of his sofas and chairs from 1953 and '54. 'I'm always pleased to be here,' said the designer, whose furniture graces the Standard hotel lobby in downtown L.A. 'This city is home for my style and taste.'
